Communicators

Zech 2:3-13

Many people despise Hitler because of his cruelty against Jewish people (including me) which is intolerable by any standard. Despite being a controversial figure, we can’t overlook his tremendous leadership ability which enable him to lead all of Germany as one nation driven to achieve one specific purpose which is to rule to world and in the process annihilating the race that Hitler hate the most, Jewish people. Hitler was also known as a great communicator, he used many sound effect and motion graphics in his speech to connect to his people. He understood that his vision need to be communicated and felt by his people so that they can move together toward the vision.

In Zechariah 2:3-13 through a vision, Zechariah tries to encourage the people concerning their future. God plans to gather them again and expand their population.
God promises to bless His people in the following areas:
1. More people (v. 4)
2. More livestock (v. 4)
3  Divine protection (v. 5)
4. Deliverance from enemies (v. 9)
5. Conversions of other ethnic groups (v. 11)
6. The return of favor of God in His people (v. 12)
Leaders know that encouragement is the oxygen of the soul.
Notice that Zechariah’s encouragement was:
1. Specific
2. Personal
3. Public
4. Detailed
5. Hopeful
6. Sincere
7. Centered around results only God could pull off.
Leaders who encourage always draw more from their people than those who don’t.

If we want to achieve God’s purpose in our life, we need to learn to become a great communicator to be able to encourage others to achieve God’s vision in their lives. If a self-centered leader with a great communication ability such as Hitler could achieve so much, imagine what a God annointed leaders could achieve (much more) with God!! Encourage others and let the Kingdom of God expanded through our and their lives.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ

Prioritas

Terpujilah nama Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus.

Haggai 1:3-9

It is easy for leaders to focus on things that are urgent rather than those that are important. This is what happened when the returning Hebrew under the Persian reign of Cyrus returned to Israel in order to rebuild the Jerusalem temple. Upon their arrival, they laid the foundation for the sanctuary and the work began but soon hostile neighbors tried to stop the work. Slowly, the building project ground to a halt. However, opposition accounted for only part of the problem. An inward enemy called “indifference” posed the major threat.

Most of the workers become apathetic, even though the rebuilding project supplied the very reason for their return to Jerusalem. Before long, many began constructing their own homes and businesses and all but lost the divine vision for their presence in Zion.

Leadership means you lose your right to be selfish. It took a leader like Haggai to call them back to their purpose. Haggai 1:3-9 outlines what happened when they abandoned their highest priority:
1. They failed to consider how their actions contradicted their faith
2. They worked hard but saw few results
3. They spent much but received little in return
4. They felt dissatisfied in their production.

When leaders and people fail to maintain proper priorities, disappointment always results. Remember the 80/20 Principle: With the right priorities, 20% of your effort will get you 80% of the desired results. But with the wrong priorities, 80% of your effort will get you 20% of your desired results. Check your calendars and learn to prioritize the important, not the immediate. It is not about working harder, but smarter!

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Zeph 3:8-20

Real Madrid will soon play Atletico Madrid on 29th May 2016 for 2015-16 European Champions League Final. This is an interesting match because it also serves as a rematch between the two sides in the same event two years ago whereby Real Madrid won and get their ‘La Decima’, a very remarkable event in the club history. What makes it more appealing to watch is this time Real Madrid is led by a new coach, Zinedine Zidane who is an outstanding figure in the world of football, winning many awards for the club he was playing in and also many individuals honours for himself. It is hard to forget how astoundingly Zidane led France, an underdog in 1998 World Cup to beat Brazil 3-1 during the Final and won the World Cup. He continued on to lead France to win 2000 Euro Cup beating Italia by 2-1. His captaincy in the club level was also undoubtedly superb, winning many league title in all club he was played in: Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid. However, Zidane is yet to prove his coaching skill, by beating Atletico Madrid and win the 11th Champions League title for Real Madrid. If he managed to do it then he is going to be what Barney Stinson always quote in ‘How I Met Your Mother’ sitcom: “Legendary!”

Zephaniah pointed to us that it is not enough for leaders to confront on the issues and addressing the problems at hand. Leaders are also required to provide solution and navigate his followers through. In Zeph 3:8-20, he as also other Old Testament prophets closed his writings with words of hope. Zephaniah even offers a plan for repentance and invites the people to walk in it. He navigates the path for the rebellious nation back to God.

There are many commentators, complainers and also critics in the world today. They are great at finding the problems but do little if any in giving out the solution. It is fun to be them but unfortunately you don’t get paid much being one. The world needs more leaders to provide solution and navigate others through. In fact, providing solutions to current problems is the fastest way to gain influence and credibilty as a leader. Joseph did it and become prime minister in Egypt, Daniel did it and become top officials for 3 different kings, Bill Gates did it with Microsoft and become the richest man in the world, Jesus did it and become the Savior of The World! Stop complaining and start becoming part of the solution!

To God be all the glory and honors!

Zef 2: 1-3

Terpujilah nama Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus!

Zeph 2:1-3

Recently we have heard many news about celebrity scandals in Indonesia: female celebrities involved in high class prostitution; other well-known celebrities got caught consuming drugs, divorce and adultery has become a common norm among this group of people. In politics, it isn’t better too, many politicians has been convicted for corruption by Anti Corruption Commitee (KPK). Money politic has spread rapidly among Indonesian official that the phrase ‘Cash is King’ has become the unofficial Golden Law in Indonesia. This nation needs a wake-up call urgently if we want to grow and become well-respected country and qualify to become a blessing to other nations!

Zephaniah is a prophet who was ready to step put of his comfort zone to get results. Some scholars have stated that Zephaniah had royal blood coursed through his veins giving him direct access to the king. As such, he could have enjoyed his favored position and live well enough alone. But Zephaniah refused to stand still. He wouldn’t allow his power and position to water down his convictions. Instead, he leveraged his influence with King Josiah to create needed civil and religious reforms. The prophet intuitively knows what needs to happen to change the people of Judah. Even with the external reforms in worship the king Josiah initiated, Zephaniah knew more changes were required. He knew change begins with the heart. Transformation happens from the inside out.

That’s why I love our current Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama who initiated reform in the bureaucratic Government of Jakarta Province. He know that changes need to be done inside out and that’s why he spend years after continuing from former Governor of Jakarta, President Joko Widodo to first transform the mindset and culture of the Civil Servant of Jakarta Government before making the vast changes required to transform the capital. Although this is still an ongoing process, the citizen of Jakarta (including me) can feel the (positive) change that is happening in the Government of Jakarta Province which in turn change Jakarta to becom a better city and province to become a model for other provinces in Indonesia.

Let’s not get complacent with ourselves and always be ready for correction when it comes. Change from inside out to become a better person. When we as individual change for the better -> our family -> our community -> our city -> our country -> the world change for the better.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
