KTP Gue Buat Ahok – My ID Is For Ahok

Amos 4

Almost everyone know in Indonesia now know who is Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also widely known as Ahok. Ahok started out as Regent of East Belitung in 2005. He was very vocal against corruption and inefficient bureucracy but at the same time also very concerned about poor people and the welfare of his people in general. Ahok then campaigned for 2007 Bangka-Belitung gubernatorial election but was defeated by other candidates. That didn’t stop him to continue to pursue his calling in politics and in 2009 was elected to the House of Representatives (DPR) of Bangka Belitung constituency. Ahok continued his straight forward approach during this period and on 2012 decided to ran along Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the 2012 Jakarta election. They succeeded in beating incumbent governor and won the election

When Jokowi decided to run for President, Ahok became the acting governor. Following Jokowi’s victory, Ahok succeeded him as governor and was sworn into office on 18 November 2014. During his terms, it is quite often for Ahok to be commented for his bluntness when he is not satisfied either with his subordinates, other government official, even to political parties, especially when he find that either they are inefficient, corrupt or put their own welfare ahead of people’s welfare. This has caused him to gather many enemies and also many sympathizers and followers at the same time. Those who are used to the old, corrupted ways are obviously not happy with Ahok but at the same time many people in Jakarta felt the positive changes that has been brought by the presence of Ahok.

Known as media darling, Ahok garner even wider attention in Indonesia as 2017 Jakarta election is coming soon. His electabilty will be put on test as more and more “attack” will be directed at him due to his decision for running as independent candidate ( not attached by particular political parties). Ahok is depending for ‘Teman Ahok’ a non-profit group with single aim which is to gather enough support of Jakarta people by their ID to pass the minimum threshold due to belief that he should serve the people and not political parties if he is to be re-electes. Whether Ahok will be continuing his term as governor of Jakarta is another question but one thing for certain is Ahok will continue to act according to his character not by testing the water or political conditions.

Do how we act changes according to the situation we are facing? Are we always try to be politically correct? Or do we act according to how God wants us to act? Are we a people pleaser or are we a God pleaser? Can we speak out to those (sometimes powerful and influential) people God wants us to speak to even if it means offending them?

We need to show love to everybody but at the same time also give out corrective measure when required to. Amos certainly didn’t hold back with his words. He laid it out like how God wanted him to tell the Israel people. Jesus turned the money changer table and ruined pigeon seller in the holy temple when he saw this ungodly practices taking place. Even God shows tough love to His children when He states in Hebrew that those that He love, He will rebuke.

Show both love and compassion to everyone but at the same time don’t hold back Godly wrath when it is necessary.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus, Halelujah, Amen!

Will Trump ‘Make America Great Again’?

Amos 1-3

When Donald J Trump announced his candidancy¬† for President of United States on 16 June 2015, many people (including me) didn’t predict that he will go far in his campaign. Most people will think that Donald was just another hopeful candidate who will probably gain little, unsignificant amount of votes or delegates required for him to really be considered a potential candidate for presidency. Then, Trump started his campaign with many radical, some of them controversial issues that has been avoided by many mainstream politicians. He brought on common issues such as jobs, equal gender rights, healthcare but also controversial issues such as immigration, Mexican borders, Islam, etc. Unpredictably, Trump’s campaign began to gather significant amount of voters among the Republican delegates beating famous figures (who were expected to perform better) including Jeb Bush (son of George Bush Sr. and brother of George W. Bush Jr., former US President) and Ted Cruz (US Senator from Texas). So if things continue as it is, Trump will likely go head to head with Hillary Clinton in the election and may possibly become the next President of United States, which hopefully ‘Make America Great Again’.

Before we go further, I would like to make a disclaimer that I am not a supporter of Donald J Trump or endorsing him in any way. I am just curious and marveled on his campaign strategy which is controversial but proven to be successful.

The question is, why is Trump’s campaign so succeessful? I believe that one of the reason is because he dares to voice out many issues that were usually avoided or considered as taboo by many mainstream politicians. In other words, Trump is anti-mainstream, new-breed kind of politician who dares to speak out (and most people hopes to also deliver on his words). Many American people are tired of current condition and they just don’t buy on the campaign voiced out by conservatives or mainstream candidates. They need someone who not only identifies the problems in the country but also speak out about it and hopefully delivers the solution.

Few thousand years ago, there was a prophet who has such anti-mainstream character like Trump but less controversial. His name is Amos, a shepherd in the dessert of Judah, who was called to be a prophet by God. Amos was no nonsense prophet with no-holds barred. When he was asked to speak out against the surrounding nations of Judah, he did so with great conviction, pointing out judgment and the cause of it to nations such as Syria, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon and Moab. Then, Amos did the same when he was told to pronounce judgment on Judah and Israel. Amos didn’t hold a double standard when he was pointing out the judgment to his nation compared to other nation. He bloted out what is neccesary and required of him by God

As a believer, our destiny in Christ is to be head and not the tail, to hold a certain leadership position wherever God positioned us whether in marketplace or family. We need to speakout when it is required of us even when it means to be anti-mainstream. It is not important to be politically correct but we are required to be theologically correct. Do what we think Christ will do if He is in our position. If we succumb to our fear of not fitting in, then most probably, we will be accepted by our peers but possibly not achieving our destiny in God. This doesn’t mean that we act out of love and compassion but what it means is that we do what we need to do by God even when it is hard to do so. God will enable us with powers from above to let us move according to His will, so that His destiny in us will be accomplished and bring glory to His name.

Blessed be the name of The Lord Jesus Christ, Halelujah, Amen.

Great Leaders are Great Communicators

Joel 1-2

Leaders must know how to communicate effectively. Without proper and effective communication, great organization will not operate on its maximum capacity and achieve its potential. Leaders need to be able to communicate one-on-one, small group as well as to a large crowd.

In the old testament, we have prophet Joel who was able not only to communicate effectively but also efficiently to people in Judah especially in Jerusalem. The message of prophet Joel is simple: repent from spiritual apathy or prepare yourself for impending doom. In addition to that, Joel not only determine the problem to his target audience but also provide solution for the problem.

How many leaders in organization, regardless in government, non-profit and profit, who don’t communicate effectively. They often are good in identifying the problem but unable to come up with the solution. Even if they come up with the solution, some leaders are unable to communicate the solution to the organization that he or she is leading, thus the organization is unable to execute the solution provided by the leader. No wonders we can see that in corporate world, great leaders are paid top dollars, those who were able to communicate his vision and bring changes positively to the organization that they are leading.

Let us as part of the body of Christ learn to communicate effectively with one another. Try to eliminate barriers to communicate and unite together as an organization. Only with effective communication, can organization unite and achieve its maximum potential to reach God-given goals and breakthrough.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Halelujah, Amen

Keep Going

Ecc 9:11

1 year ago, nobody in their right mind will dare to bet Leicester City is gonna be real contender for English Premiere League title. 1 year ago, Leicester has barely survived relegation and struggling to even remain in the Premier League. But today, 11 Apr 2016, The Foxes (nickname for Leicester City FC) is 7 points ahead of their nearest rival, Totenham Hotspur, guaranteed a place in next season European Champions League and 5 matches away (could even be less) to win their 1st ever English Premier League title!!

What really changes in the team? If you take a look at the 2014/15 comparing it with 2015/16 team, there wasn’t much difference except for 1 or 2 players. The key factor that really become the turning point is the sacking of their manager Nigel Pearson to the Italian coach, Claudio Ranieri. Here are some intereting facts about Ranieri. He has long spells in the European Football, coaching teams not only in the primary division but also secondary and tertiary league. Ranieri has had some successes but not really what could have been described as world class success even with first class team like Inter and Chelsea. Then, out of nowhere, Ranieri suddenly took Leicester to become a dominant force in Premier League.

So what really happened? I am not Claudio Ranieri so I don’t really know what happened to him or what changes inside of him. All I know is that Ranieri has been a consistent man doing what he has been doing for decades. Then, as explained by the bible verse in Ecclesiastes 9:11 – time (chronos) and chance (kairos) happeneth to them all; Ranieri’s kairos has come and this year he is gonna experience probably the best coaching year of his life after decades of trying and waiting.

Many people never experience real success in their lives and mostly not because of lack of talent but because of lack of focus and determination. When we study top notch people in every profession, we are looking at people who have been in the industry not on short-run but long-run, those who were in it not for one or two years but decades, some even their whole life. People nowadays want everything to happen fast, they desire instant success. The bad news is no great success comes instantly but they requires process, going thru ups-and-downs and personal growth among other things.

Follow our passion, do what we love and good at. Stay for the long run and keep on improving ourselves. Don’t quit when the goings get tough. When ur kairos has come, God will take you to experience new heights and successes.

1 Corinthians 2:9 – But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Halelujah, Amin!

Holding Onto Your Values

Dan 6

Daniel was as always excellent in his work because an excellent spirit was in him. It took no time for Darius to notice this and he purposed to make Daniel his second-in-command over all his kingdom. Success however, brings out fake friends and real enemies. Many people who are jealous of Daniel tried to find his fault and find none except for the fault of the law concerning his God. Thus these governors and satraps tricked King Darius to set a decree that will threaten Daniel concerning his faith.

Knowing the decree has been signed by King Darius, Daniel didn’t hold back from praying to his God (as he always did since early days) and therefore he was held guilty according to the King’s decree. Darius was very troubled regarding this and spent his night sleepless and fasting thinking of ways to save Daniel. The next morning the King went to the lion den and found that God has sent His angel to shut the lion’s mouth and rescued Daniel. Instead the king send the men who has accused Daniel (along with their families) to the lion den and they are immediately consumed and crushed by the lions even to their bones.

We can learn that Daniel didn’t compromise on his value even when the going gets tough. Many people show off their values only when things are easy and tend to compromise when the situation isn’t conducive. Very few people hold on to their values like Daniel, sadly even for those clergyman alike. This world doesn’t need people who are more educated, there are plenty of those who graduate from Ivy League colleges but didn’t amount much. The world doesn’t need more talented people as many talented people with bad values and attitude prove to bring more trouble. The world needs more end-time Daniel, those who has character and integrity, those who stick to their God-given values no matter what.

No matter where you start, God can bring you from a humble start and sit you in presence of kings. You can be as poor as a church mouse but when His promotion comes, you can be as rich as Bill Gates and bring glory to His Kingdom. You can go from nobody to somebody, from zero to hero as long as God’s character is in you. Let Word of God manifest in your life thru the guidance of Holy Spirit.

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Halelujah, Amin!

Leadership is influence

Dan 5

A person’s leadership is not determined entirely by his/her position but more of their influence. You don’t establish influence just in one day, you need to establish rapport over a period of time and that’s what differentiate Daniel and Belshazzar.

Belshazzar inherited the kingdom from his father, Nebuchadnezzar whom is full of pride but ultimately humbled by God of Israel thru various processes in his life. Belshazzar, obviously knew about his father life story (Dan 5:22-23) but didn’t learn from his father mistakes. Not only did he show no respect to God of Israel, Belshazzar even used the gold and silver vessels from the temple of Jerusalem for idol worships. There is no wonder that God’s wrath was incurred upon his life.

As the law of E. F. Hutton states when real leader speaks, people listen. When Belshazzar was in fear, he seeks the counsel of Daniel, the real leader who has real influence. Daniel was able to tell Belshazzar what actually happened and Daniel’s prophecy came true. That night, Belshazzar was killed and his kingdom was split. Belshazzar met his doom for ignoring what is necessary but Daniel influence remained even until the reign of Darius the Medes.

The question now is, what causes Daniel’s infuence remained intact, though the leadership kept on changing in his life (Daniel maintained high position in the reign of 3 consecutive kings: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar and Darius)?
There are 10 traits in Daniel’s life:
1. Relationships – People listen to us because of who we know
Daniel had a reputation for knowing the God of Israel
2. Sacrifice – People listen to us because of what we have suffered.
Daniel gave up his right to eat the king’s food
3. Character – People listen to us because of our integrity
Daniel remained blameless and trustworthy even when he had to rebuke kings
4. Relevance – People listen to us because we identify with their needs
Daniel lived with the Babylonians and identified with their struggles and lifestyle
5. Insight – People listen to us because of what we know
Daniel could interpret dreams and visions that confused everyone else.
6. Vulnerability – People listen to us because we are genuinely transparent
Daniel’s life was an open book
7. Experience – People listen to us because we are genuinely transparent
Daniel’s credibility came from years of living well
8. Humility – People listen to us because we incarnate meekness
Daniel served and submitted to authorities, unless they broke a higher law.
9. Competence – People listen to us because of our abilities and expertise.
Daniel did many things better than anyone else
10. Courage – People listen to us because we demonstrate conviction
Daniel was no one puppet and showed he would die for his conviction

If we determine to fulfil God’s destiny upon our life, we need to influence others and become real leaders. People will listen to what we say when they see our traits like Daniel was looked upon in his time. Try to develop the 10 traits one step and a time and continue to be transformed daily by Word of God and Holy Spirit so that we can become real leaders to glorify Name of God.

Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Halelujah, Amin!

One way, Jesus

I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back, whatever the cost is!
Following Jesus is a one way street.
Salvation is given free but the cost of salvation, which is Jesus is priceless!
Jangan tukar keselamatan yg kekal dengan kesenangan sementara di dunia!

Terpujilah nama Tuhan kita Yesus Kristus, Haleluya, Amin!
